 Pedestal For A Ring


 For today’s assignment I’ve made a 3D form in Rhino out of a 2D paper model. 

I’m really into large structural sculptures, so I came up with a design. Because of the limitations of two dimensions, I wasn’t able to layout the shape I wanted correctly on a flat surface, so I took the same concept and simply cut it in half.


This is the shape I came up with. It was supposed to be one big standing X shape, but like I said I settled for something a little less complex (for now). I almost like this shape anyways because its flat surface opens the piece up to functional use as a pedestal.

Again I had to kinda settle with what I made. There were some unexpected nuances with the paper model that became really hard to translate onto the computer model,  namely the way paper bends and pinches and pulls, that I had to do my best recreating in Rhino without a network surface. Otherwise I’m pretty happy with the model, and if I can make a real version soon if this in metal I’d gladly put it in the house or give it to a friend.

Teching This Deck 'Till I Flip My Process  As usual I have chosen a project that is probably a little out of my skill range, but if I can pull this off my skills will grow immensely. I'll officially be better in Rhino than I am at Blender.   For my biggest project yet, I've chosen a Tech Deck that I have to recreate to high accuracy in Rhino. The deck itself is highly nuanced with it's curves, so a simple shape wont cut it. It will take some surface modeling to get the job done. The rest seems fairly doable, save the trucks which will require a little surface modeling.  For some reason the picture resolution looks like dog s**t, but hey there it is.  To make sure my object actually look like a real tech deck I've have to figure out all the little dimensions involved. Castle for a Rich Snob

I have been waiting a long time to get my hands on a computer powerful enough to run Rhino. The time has finally arrived, and this is my first creation. Our in-class prompt was to make a castle out of simple shapes using the basic skills we learned in our first class. Luckily for me, there's been this little design floating in my mind for a while... actually my first architectural idea ever, etched somewhere on the side of some random piece of paper buried in my closet. This idea has been living loosely in my head for almost two years, as I'm unsure how to capture an idea so accurately with a pencil. I wanted to capture the functionality of a temple, with the rigidity of a castle; a head of mind and state at the same time.  Rhino offers an accurate representation of reality that aids my design process.
